Return to Play Clearances

If an athlete is seen by a doctor, they must bring a note stating their permissible activity level. The note may also contain any instructions for the athletic trainers to follow, such as rehabilitation exercises or modalities, with the athlete. This rule applies for EVERYONE regardless of the diagnosis, i.e. concussion, fracture, contusion, sprain, etc. Due to state guidelines, we are unable to accept a return to play clearance from anyone other than a licensed physician or advanced practice clinician. We cannot accept notes from health care professionals such as chiropractors, registered nurses, medical assistants, etc.

For example, if a fracture is suspected and an x-ray is taken, a note that has been SIGNED by the licensed physician, MD or DO, must be produced stating if/when the athlete is cleared to return to participation and if/when they are allowed to participate in contact drills/full participation in sports.
